The Ford Center looks like a solid room for a concert. I wish I could meet you guys in person, it's my turn to stay home and play kiddie concerts for the elementary schools. The tour band rolled this morning, and are getting into uniform for tonight's concert as I type this. The tour section this year is Matt Summers and Mark Jenkins on euphonium; John Cradler, Mark Thiele, and Paul Mergen on tuba. Go say hello to the crew if you get a chance, they'll be on the road for a while.
They should be playing the Anthem right now. Tour is on. Have fun, guys.

Yes, you are looking at Tom Holtz. Quite a looker me thinks. The question is: WHERE IS TOM LOOKING? Answer: Nowhere, Tom does not have eyes. The glasses are there to make you think he has eyes. Right before the piece started he leaned over to the player next to him and asked about the key and the time signature. That is all the info Tom needs. If you think this is amazing you should see Tommy march.LV wrote:OK, TH, Who are we looking at here? The pic is from the MB schedule page.
Best regards,

Benson Auditorium
If you are in the Central Arkansas area, Harding University and Benson Auditorium will be a great place to hear the band .

Day one complete!
Well gang, Lynchburg, Virginia marked the first of about 43 concerts over the next 7 weeks. Typical tour stop, great folks in the audience. Highlights?: Shostakovich - Festive Overture at tempo- di- burno and Tom Knox arrangement of God of Our Fathers.
Bluefield WV tonight, Boone NC tomorrow.
Doc, where will you be attending the concert?

Actually, this year is Area 2 on the tour map. Next year is Area 3, with Florida, Georgia, and the southeast region of the U.S. If you poke around on the website, you'll find a tour map with the regions on it. I expect we'll be in Florida sometime in late October, 2006. Let me find some linkage...BopEuph wrote:How come there isn't any performances in Florida? They only come this way once in so many years. And the fact that Florida is in Area 3, which is where the band is going, should mean that they would be visiting here as well.

Good morning, John. Don't sniff too many bus fumes.

This is why I've been relegated to kiddie concerts for all of October. I could have been on the tour bus, and Thiele would be taking the beating on TubeNet, but no-o-o-o-o-o-o....Leland wrote:I have.Cameron Gates wrote: If you think this is amazing you should see Tommy march.
Hoo boy.
If I start driving now, I can catch up with the buses in Bluefield, WV tonight.

Frank Crawford and Chris Tiedeman are home this year. The jobs all get covered, somehow. We always work it out. Oh yeah, Cameron has been pregnant for eight months now, didn't you hear? He's had the hardest time getting a mute into the Nirschl with the belly and all. It's good he's not on the tour bus--morning sickness, you know.

Same time as the Marine band in Jackson too.bloke wrote:The Ford Center Auditorium (on the U of Mississippi campus, about 1-1/2 hrs. southeast of Memphis in Oxford, MS on Saturday, October 8th) is a nice venue. I'll actually be playing some stuff in there the following afternoon.
How do I get in to the Quintet show?
Or should I just go to Jackson?
The different programs at JSU and Ole Miss are both worth seeing

That's logging more than a few miles yourself. Patrons like you are few and far between. I thought the programs for this Friday and this Sunday were the same... I'll have to look. Still, it's worth it to hear Aaron Clay knock down "Czardas." How cool is it that he's soloing? Only one person gets less love than the tuba player in an orchestra, and that's the bass player in a concert band.ThomasDodd wrote:The program for Huntsville wasn't the same as JSU, I drive there tonight.Tom Holtz wrote: Alabama; Saturday, Mississippi. Man, you guys are logging some serious miles right now. That's Tour, baby.
As it is I'm hioping to make Ole Miss and JSU Saturday and Sunday.
(That's C1 and B1)

Re: followup
Just go easy on John when you see him. Tour is hard enough without people (ahem) badgering him about his alma maters' gridiron performance against Northwestern today.JCradler wrote:Hope to meet some tubenetters on this tour, so far no contact.
