Posters of Famous tuba People

I have one of Jim Self and one of Roger Bobo that I got from the Music Fest Canada Nationals last year. Actually, they came right off the wall of the Yamaha display room.

I saw a great poster the other day--one of the old 60's "instruments of the orchestra", complete with little portraits of musicians playing them. The set was wonderful; even with lesser-used instruments such as contrabassoon and harp.

The poster for tuba had a picture of a Conn 20J; I can't recall the tuba player featured on it, though. His name didn't ring a bell.

He was shown with an upright tuba, and I believe it was said that he played with the National Symphony--last name was something like "Lewin".

This ring any bells with anyone?

That'd be William Lewin, National Symphony Orchestra, early 60's, or so.

and, we've had conversations that a good set of tuba/euphonium trading cards would be a hoot to have around. Can you imagine? I'll trade you a Bobo rookie year with LA, for a vintage Bowman in the Navy card......

OR, I'll trade you a 68 Alexander F, for a 59 Mirafone BBb......

the possibilities are endless, and amazingly geeky....

I recognize that I'm a geek, but I think I could really get into that, myself. Of course, there aren't enough of us around to make it a profitable business venture. Too bad.

It doesn't have to be profitable to get done. It just takes someone with the proper tools and images, and willingness to take it on. hmmm...

Not something I've got time to take on, but there are companies to do this, for example:

I'd suggest the red suits be brass horns (de-zinced) - piston brass = hearts, rotary brass = diamonds, then silver horns (tarnish ya' know) for the black suits = silver piston = spades, silver rotary = clubs.

The jokers would be sousaphones!

Maybe this could be a Tubenet fundraiser to generate $$$ for a composer commision.
