Help Valuing Yamaha YFB822 vs 821

Hi

I've got an Yamaha YFB822S that I bought in 2013, but is from probably 90's era as pre-custom stamp. Plays very well. Condition is decent - no dents but some silver flaking and some scratches etc.
I have the opportunity to swap it for an YFB821S plus add cash. I think from 2018 or so - good condition all round - not brand new, but no dents really or many issues on any of the valves or silver finish.

Any ideas on the value on either horn? I know it's tricky without photos but any thoughts welcome. I have a rough idea but just want to check I'm not kidding myself.

Thanks, B

Depending on the amount of + cash it could be worth it. It might also be a good idea to sell your 822 and make them an offer. The 821 is more expensive than the 822 new fyi. You aren’t kidding yourself.

FWIW, I sold my 822 to buy an 821 about 15 years ago. I paid almost twice as much for the 821 as I sold the 822 for… I still feel like it was worthwhile. It was an older 822 and the 821 was a new model at the time.

That said, I play Eb tuba also, so there was a lot of sound/repertoire crossover from the Eb to the 822 and there is more difference from Eb to the smaller 821. As always, your mileage may vary.

Thanks for the replies. Yes - the 821 definitely suits me better in a lot of ways - I do miss the power of the 822 which definitely has more heft than the 821, but the 821 is so much more in tune and even tempered - much more akin to my ex beloved YBB621. My 822 was harder to tune across the range for sure. I'm sure I can sell the 821 if my mind changes so I'm fairly sure I'll take it - I think I just had second thoughts now that I see a new 822 costs $14k new, so just wondered if I was valuing it low (in my mind in the UK it would sell for like $5000ish). Like the 821, the 822's are rare here too. Anyway, thanks for thoughts
