Do I have the tuba I think I do?

Post by tuba1701 »

Hello. I don't play the tuba. But my 92 yr old father did for many years, many years ago. He no longer plays and would like to find his tuba a good home. I work at a band instrument repair shop in the midwest and have access to some info, which combined with online searching has led me to believe he has a (approx.) 1924 Conn New Wonder Giant Eb. What I know: ser.#145757, brass, Eb, 17" bell. Our in house tuba player (who referred me to your fine site) says it plays surprisingly well and is in very nice condition for its age. Slides feel snug and move smoothly, pistons are free. Engraving is sharp and lacquer is gold not clear but we suspect that it may have been refinished at some point. What I don't know: model/designation, and as importantly, value. What other info would help? Pics of anything in particular? I welcome your guidance and questions, as well as any advice you may have on finding a buyer. On behalf of my father, thank you very much for your time.
