Interesting New Release for Solo Tuba with Strings

To those who are interested,

I am here to report on the release of a new work for tuba and strings composed by Connecticut-based conductor and composer, Richard Chiarappa.

Having recently retired from his position as the founder and longtime director of the West Hartford Symphony Orchestra, Richard has turned his focus to composing a series of new solo works aimed at developing upper-intermediate level instrumentalists.

The most recent product of this project is his new work, Dialogue for Tuba and Strings.

Originally written for string bass, this short solo piece is specifically designed to provide an appropriate technical and musical challenge for the competent high school tubist seeking further musical stimulation.

Running approximately 3 minutes and 22 seconds, the piece sits in a range that is accessible for younger players (G1 - A3) and navigates keys that are friendly for BBb tuba. I believe accessibility on BBb tuba is essential in accomplishing the goals of a piece of this nature.

Dialogue for Tuba and Strings has been released with it's original orchestral accompaniment as well as a piano reduction, meaning it is usable in a private studio setting, as well as with a school or community orchestra.

Ultimately, I think you'll find the piece provides a great option for a good high school player in need of a new project. it fits a niche that I think is underrepresented in our repertoire (a shorter, intermediate-level, solo piece for tuba with strings), provides ample opportunity for individual musical interpretation, and oh yeah... it sounds good!
