Preferred Venue for Playing Tuba or Euphonium

Post by TubaRay »

What venue do you prefer to play? My favorite is small brass ensemble. For me, this is specifically brass quintet. I also like very much to play in wind ensemble and tuba/euph quartet. Heck! I like them all!

It's quintet for me, too, and I also like them all. The quintet has a purity of sound not available in big groups, and I feel like I have my best opportunities to contribute by being musical.

You neglected to include "Brass Band" in your choices. I have played in all listed venues in some form or fashion and find brass band to be the most interesting and fun to play with. Some of the best arranging and writing today is in the brass band medium. My .02 pesos worth.

I prefer brass choir of any size because I can play eithor tuba or euphorium, which ever is needed. Plus the music is lots of fun.

Solo playing for me, with a good pianist I really enjoy tackling the many different styles that the euphonium can master.

"Other" -

Any of the above, as long as it's in front of people.

Well, that's not necessarily a kind of ensemble, but it's what I think of when I see the word "venue".

I've always played in concert bands or brass ensembles, but I prefer playing in concert bands.
