How many commencement services are you playing?

It is that time of year. How many services are you playing this year? Do you bring a book, stare into space, or check out the audience?

Is there a market for this?

Never considered it...

What are

"commencement services"?

Are they equivalents of our "konfirmation"?

Thanks for the info!

I guessed wrong, as our "konfirmation" is a religious ceremony.

I've played a few U of Nebraska - Kearney Nursing School services with quintet for 50 bucks per player (I think), and my parents play U of Neb Medical Center spring graduations with the Omaha Wind Symphony (decent community band) that, I'm guessing, the band organization gets paid for.

The UNK nursing school ceremony was short enough that we just stayed on stage. The Omaha med center's is certainly a lot longer, and the band takes a break to go outside and get some air.

UNK's regular graduation ceremonies were long enough that I could go home (across the street, in my case), have a lunch, and still have time to just chill before they got done handing out diplomas.

After playing a few, it was hard to get motivated to do any more. I just tried to remind myself that, for everyone else in the arena, it's quite a special occasion. That didn't stop us tubas from trying different ways to alternate notes in Pomp & Circumstance, though.

I have, on the other hand, done five or six ,,konfirmationer`` this year. Mainly singing, but also some tuba playing. Unfortunately, the season is coming to an end here in Iceland.
