I have a Sterling "Symphonic" model euphonium. The specs state that the bell diameter is 12" but my ruler reads about 11 5/8ths". IMHO, it doesn't make a lot of difference one way or the other.

I have not played a Virtuoso model but don't understand how it substntially differs from the Symphonic models, at least based on the stated specs.

My Sterling plays has a very nice tone and the valves work well if kept well-oiled. Custom says that later models of Sterlings use a German-made valve set.

In my opinion, the Sterling can be a great pro-level compensating horn at a price significantly lower than what one would pay for a top-line new Besson, Willson, or Yamaha. Custom Music is the sole importer in the U.S. and offers a two week trial period (You pay shipping costs).

Try it out. it may be the euph for you or it may not. Only you can decide.

I'll guess that the bell measures exactly 295 mm and the marketing folks just rounded it up to 12" for those of us who don't speak metric.

They often do, on high-ticket items. It's called "haggling" or "stoopid bank card merchant fees".
