Number/valves

Post by TubaRay »

I don't believe there is a definitive answer to your question. I have owned a Miraphone 186 CC, w/5valves for a very long time. I am quite happy with it. How many valves one needs depends on a number of factors. Some of these include what key the horn is in, what application, how much low register playing, etc. If I had to make a blanket answer, I would say one needs 4 or 5 valves most moderate to advanced level playing. A beginner could certainly do fine with only three. Now that is for tuba. For euphonium, 4 valves would probably cover most situations. Three valves for beginner to moderate level.

3 or 4 valves?

If you smell discrimination, your sense of smell must be a lot better than mine. All I smell is pizza. As to the number of valves, if you want valves, check elsewhere on the TubeNet. Now THAT is valves.

Valves are for the weak....

Just joking. I prefer at least a 4 valve.
