Does anyone know who won the Substitute Tuba position with the Houston Symphony?

Both students at Rice were accepted as subs.

Both of them sounded fantastic. They both had very large, nice sounds. They earned it, believe me.

Speak of the devil. I actually attended tuba class at UH on Monday. They have some decent players, but no current student from UH auditioned. I tried to convince one to do it, but he had a very busy month with classes (he's not a music major, but business major). He had a bit of a falling out with the band directors at UH, but is a very capable player.

Ok, let me be more specific for Bloke...When did you graduate from the University of Houston?

And the answer was 1991. You guys are just too goofy.

Doc, did you study with Mr. Rose while there?

Thats cool. I was able to study with Mr. Rose for 2 years after he came back to teach at UH, at Mr. Green's request. After those two years, he retired again, and Mr. Barton (who was already teaching there) taught all of the tubas.
