depending on vintage, the old style "small shanks" will not fit a modern American shank receiver properly

is it a modern Eb or an old one? Most modern Eb's use an american shank receiver... i.e. besson 983, mw 2041, etc..

I just got an old York Eb helicon. I borrowed a Bach 24AW with a "B" stamped on the shank. I was told this is a "Besson" shank. It fits in the receiver (where my PT-88 didn't even come close). It goes in about 1/2 inch & seems to work ok. I can't comment on the tuning yet, because I havent managed to swap the nifty Low Pitch / High Pitch tuning slide over to the high pitch side. It seems to play A~=435 right now, which I'm guessing is the proper low pitch.
I'm interested in the answer to this question too, so I can search for a cheap small shank mouthpiece.
