I've been searching for a while and need some advice. I am looking for an F tuba mouthpiece which has a simliar rim and "feel" as a Conn Helleburg standard but with the typical F mouthpiece depth and size. Right now, going back and forth feels a little funny. I know there is a Conn 7B but I believe the rim is signifigantly wider than the standard model. If this is as close as it gets, then the 7B will be my choice. Thanks for any imput.

In my opinion, the 7B is a contrabass mouthpiece and still quite deep for use on an F tuba. I bought one with the same intention as you, but it did not work well at all.

You might consider a Doug Elliott mouthpiece. Doug's 4N-130 rim is modeled on the Conn Helleberg, and you can couple it with any cup you want. The L and N cups are typical shallow cups similar to F tuba mouthpieces. Get the shank that fits your tuba, with a mid-sized throat, like a 4 or so.

The Mirafone TU 11 is just what you're looking for. It has a rim practically identical to a "standard" Conn-Helleberg, and a "traditional" F tuba cup and throat. It is even advertised as having a "Helleberg" rim...... A good F tuba mouthpiece, REGARDLESS.

Bloke's right. The price on the Mirafone would be in excess of the altered Schilke, and you could "maintain" your throat size. I've done the same (throat-wise) with one of my 69C4s, and it works well, though the large throat takes a little "zing" out of the sound. Overall a more "priceworthy" alternative, though.

I think the Sam Ash house brand tuba mouthpiece is Helleberg-like. It feels slightly smaller than 7B; I don't know if it actually is. The rim feels a little smaller. The polish job is not so great; but the price is nice. The model number has "18" in it, but it has absolutely nothing in common with a Bach 18. It won't cost you much to try it out.
