I am looking into getting a small recording gig, like a small four channel recording set-up, and was wondering if anyone out there had any good ideas as far as what microphones are good, reliable tuba/instrument recording microphones.

I do not recall the model numbers off the top of my head but both Octava and RODE make recording mics that are very very good quality for tuba without breaking the bank

Fancy studio mikes hear noises in my old tuba I don't like. I'm hearing hisses and clanks. A $100 Shure SM 57 gives me the sound I like out of my old King.

I really like this mic for tuba. It also works better than most in live applications.
And it's only $100.
