Hi my name is Nick Jones ,

I am the new solo tuba player with the Beaumaris Band (www.beaumarisband.org.uk).
I have been a member of the band since 2001 , I am a former principal tubist with the National Youth Brass Band of Wales , and a member of the Point of Ayr Colliery Band.
The Beaumaris Band is a championship section band and the youth and B Bands are award winning youth and 4th section former National British Champions .
If anyone is over in North Wales on business or holiday , drop us a line and pop over to check out state of the art Reharsal and Recording Facilities.

Do you have to speak Welsh to be in the Beaumaris Band?

Hi thanks for the message , we are very proud of our heritage and language , to be honest I don't know if we have a language policy.
We do have a lot of welsh speakers in the organisation ( around 160 at the last count between all the bands B , youth , intermediate , training and the senior bands) , but rehersals are conducted in Welsh and English , If anyone comes down they are made to feel welcome whatever language you spoke. some of us have even a few norwegian phrases when we have worked with guest conductors like Morten E Hansen ( Stavanger , Norway ).

Hi Jim well with a surname of Williams , I think you qualify as Welshman....Bangor is a great place , and Aber and Dolgellau ( dont know if you went to the sessiwn fawr when you were in Dol).blimey you might even be a distant relation of Euphonium Star Glyn Williams ( where you visited is Glyns neck of the woods)I have a few experiences of the usa , I was a featured soloist on the Trefor Band ( Llyn Peninsula ) tour of Milwaukee and Wisconsin in 1997 , we played at the Cymanfa Canu and the Eisteddfod , went to Waulkasha (sp) , a village called Wales , Oshkosh(sp) , Milwaukee and other parts of Wisconsin and Michigan like Green Bay and Grand Rapids.
also hired help with the Black Dyke Band tour of USA ( New Jersey and Philadelphia) and Bermuda in 2002.
well if you ever back in the UK or North Wales , drop on by to Beaumaris , just bring a mouthpiece and leave the rest to us :)
cheers
