does anyone know a what a good recording of gregson's tuba concerto would be?

I'm in total agreement with Wonton, Fletcher has the most attractive sound that I could only wish to aspire to. His performance is really good.

He plays it with the Besses o' the Barn Band.

I am interested in the Floyd Cooley recording? Is that a common recording (easy to get)?

It is on Gourley plays tuba ( with the 1994 new cadenza ) , also the John Fletcher tribute disk ( the best of fletch ) , I think Andy Duncan ( former Halle Orchestra , Manchester ) has recorded it with the Stocksbridge Engineering Band ( around 1994) on a CD called Heritage.

I know it's slightly off topic but has anyone heard "East meets West" James Gourley Solo CD vol2 - some fantastic sounds and arguably the best interpretation of the Vaughn Williams Concerto for Tuba ( accomp by the Grimethorpe Colliery Band in a transcription by Philip Littlemore)
