Even though you are not that serious you would probably still like to have a nice horn. It is my understanding that jupiter has made great strides in the last four or five years to improve the quality of their instruments, however I just recently got the opportunity to play one of the four valve models and I wasn't impressed. If you are patient, and look, you can find a much better instrument for the same money, you might have to buy a 3-4 year old horn, but you might luck up and find a great deal on a new one. I think you have chosen a well-suited instrument for your situation. The Jupiter is a great-playing tuba and moderately low in price, perfect for the hobbiest/amateur that does not need a professional instrument. Try as many as you can, as I have played a couple and see a little inconsistency between horns. I know you have expressed an interest in the silver models, but the laquer models I have tried seemed to have a richer sound.

There are some that seem to have a negative opinion of the Jupiter line. I would advise anyone to try out these new 582s, as they are a considerable step above anything else I have tried from Jupiter, in regards to sound, craftsmanship, and response.
