Now that we are in the middle of the busy season for us tuba players, that being the Tuba Christmas, I wanted to ask all of you about whether you have a favorite song or songs in the TC green book.

You can list just one, two, five, ten, etc.

As for me, here are some in no particular order:

That's probably my favorite one, and we (Kalamazoo) haven't played it in a long time, either (around 15 to 20 years). I think we started off with it the first few years (ca. '75 to '80). Would be nice to play it again!

The group is a little messy sounding, but with 5 bass saxes and a contrabass how can you go wrong?

Speaking of "horning in" (pun intended) at our TubaChristmas I have seen clarinetists, saxophonists, flautists, etc showing up with borrowed bariphoniums which they can't play, but try. What an awful distraction. We even had a guy show up with an alto horn which he called an Eb Baritone!!

Does any one else see this going on at their TC? and what can be done about it?

What's wrong with an alto horn? At the unaffiliated San Jose Christmas Tuba Fest the music had real alto horn parts and...guess what...it sounded a LOT better than any official TubaChristmas(TM). If I had my druthers, there would be parts for alto horn and flugel horn, the alto and soprano members of the tuba family.
