I like the Avatar feature and the ability to go back and edit posts. FWIW, i am a member of other forums set up in this PHP manner and they are nowhere near as nice with the features that Sean has enabled.

Maybe the biggest drawback is that we won't be able to celebrate the 10th anniversary of this BBS in the old HTML style! I remember logging onto this website when you did a Yahoo! search for "tuba" and only came up with about 27 sites. Wow, it is really hard to believe I have been reading and replying to posts on this board for that long! All that time I have wasted!

Thanks for all of your hard work, Sean. I'm sure you'll tweak this forum to be better than the old one. I remeber having not much more than the actual BBs, but you continued to add features that made sense. Hopefully this allows you to spend more time where it is really needed.

BTW, why are people still afraid of posting a real name on here? C'mon, folks....

It's not a fear thing for me. It just never occurred to me to use my real name when confronted with the "User Name" field. I am a fair-weather community band tubist that is only personally known to a few users on this board anyway, so using my real name would have about the same effect as my screen name. When someone needs to know my real name, I provide it - I always sign my PMs with my real name.

P.S. TubeNet is by far the easiest to use tuba information site with the most/best content, but we all know that.

Good Morning, Dan!

Not quite awake, yet! I just came off the Germania Mannerchor 'Volksfest' weekend gig with the 'Rhein Valley Brass'. Three nights. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 6pm to midnight. I'm a little 'slappy' this morning! Got a two your rehearsal with a different band this afternoon at 2:30.

Changing the subject (but mildly related)... I found a gadget last week that makes my life a bit easier. This thing elevates by left foot a bit... something I used to do by putting my heel up on a chair leg... and puts me in a better position to hold a tuba.

I also just didn't think about using my real name when I originally registered. I went back a year or so ago and tried to change "Uncle Buck" to my name, but realized that is one thing that can't be changed.

It isn't worth it to me to create a new user name.

Interesting thread. I am new to this thread stuff, having joined a motorcycle forum a year ago, and this forum earlier this year, to reflect my two new hobbies: riding a motorcycle (Honda Shadow Spirt 1100) and playing the tuba (York Master 3/4 BBb.) I enjoy both sites, and have learned a lot from both of them. I belong to NO sites related to my profession (law enforcement) and have no intent of joining any of those.

On my motorcycle forum, my user name is Ally House. What I go by (only my mother, RIP, called me Alysoun Ann). I couldn't figure out how to get a cutesy user name. I had figured it out by the time I joined this forum, and used bearphonium because 1. at the time, I was playing the euphonium after a 20 year layoff from music 2. I collect bear stuff, from teddy bears to drawings/indian artwork and 3. bear is slang for law enforcement.

That's funny! there's a Beuphonium who posts infrequently on the Moto Guzzi forum. Active military. I guess every motorcycle forum should have its own armed euphonium player.

Carry the euphonium on your motorcycle? I've been carrying an extra large Eb tuba on mine, but not in a case - I think a case would make it harder to attach securely.

I haven't tried it, but could sort of see it. If you have to strap it down as I do, space is limited to one tuba. But two-up, the tubas can be strapped to the passenger, so lots more carrying capacity!

The person I think you're referring to seems like a new user on the other board since he seems compelled to post in almost every thread. RE: the name, if we're talking about something that that rhymes with "Schmirschl", this guy's user name is just a takeoff on that. Like if you called yourself BobMeinl or something. Herr Meister Nirschl would probably use the first initial W also.
