I was using a Laskey 28H for a long time. Started a couple of months ago using Kelly/Hellebergs. I am currently using an old Yamaha Canadian Brass model while contemplating going back to the Laskey. Lots of Christmas playing gives lots of time to experiment, or go down new roads with old acquaintences. Thanks for your response!

I changed from a Kellyberg to a Loud LM-5 on my 2XJ, with good results...it seemed to help with some of the intonation issues on my horn...or made it easier for me to overcome them...I'm not sure which...but that is just me and my horn, for what that's worth...about 1 and 1/2 cents.

I thought about the "Loud" but I like flat rims.

Have you looked at just the rim section at the Loud site? They make a Helleberg rim too.

I read some learned commentary here on the Conn Helleberg lineage recently, to the effect that the business parts of the Conn 2 are the same as their original Helleberg, which is about the same as the 7B? And their corporate vampire successors also supply a UMI version of the 2, which would be identical?

I happen to have a very old Conn-Helleberg and a Conn 2, and they don't seem very similar to me. The Conn 2 has a slightly shallower cup, a sharper transition to the throat, a larger backbore and a cup that falls sharply away from the sharp rim instead of a cup that flares out slightly to meet the sharp rim as on the Helleberg.

I saw a trombone E-Z tone still in a wallflower at a local music store recently. I told them if they remodeled, trash the horn but save the mouthpiece. Some people do like them. My college band director played one on a pea shooter, and he could get almost as high as some of the trumpet players. Didn't Dorsey play them?

Just switched to a PT-88 from a Rudy Meinl 10 on my 25J. It made the horn a lot easier to control and opened up the sound quite a bit.

Well, that sounds like the Conn 2, all right -- and isn't it also like the 7B? (I'm asking, never seen one.) Since the 7B is fairly easy to come by these days, I was thinking it might be interesting to know whether they're essentially similar.
