Absolutely! In San Antonio we will be having our 27th Annual TubaMeister Christmas event. It is coming up on Sat., Dec. 17th. I will post a separate announcement here on TubeNet. I like it better than any real TUBACHRISTMAS I have ever attended. And we play right on San Antonio's famous riverwalk. in downtown S.A.

Why are there opposing Tubaevents? I have always thought it was a secular thing, but of late I have come to think it is more of a anti-"TC as an entity" thing.

I'm not certain I understand your question. All I can say is that we(the organizers) like what we do better. Let me explain. First of all, to a new TC attendee, there is the $12 cost of a book plus the $5 registration. Very quickly they are out $17. We ask for a $5 donation which covers registration AND the cost of the book. We have written our own arrangement for this book and I believe they work every bit as well as those of the TC.

A number of years ago, we hosted an official TubaChristmas. Since we had to send a substantial portion of the registration fee to the national organization, we were not able to cover that cost plus all the other expenses we incurred that year. With hosting our own event, we can do what WE choose to do, and the all the money stays local. About the only downside that I can think of is that we don't get listed on the TC website. Ironically, when we did the TC here(prior to the website), the powers at be failed to list us in their mailout.

All of this led to a slight distaste in our mouths. We decided to do our own and haven't looked back. If any of you doubt the validity of our event, come down to San Antonio and be a participant. If you don't contribute the $5 for registration, we'll register you anyway and give you a book to keep. That's how it works. We're proud of the TubaMeister Christmas in San Antonio.

Believe it or not, next year. The Old Capitol is opening again on Saturday, May 6 2006 and the UIowa tuba ensemble is playing at the dedication.

That was the one disappointment of my college career - I always had classes on Friday mornings. I did watch many a "Holiday Tuba" concert. Is Dr. Manning going to dress in a Santa Suit like Bob Yeats always did?

He did last year. Also used a huge candy cane for his conducting baton.

Hi,
Last night I was talking to a trombone/ euph player friend of mine and I told him that tuba xmas was friday here in Atlanta. He said that trombone players should crash the tuba xmas and play Chanukkah music as loud as they can from the other side of the room. (Pretty funny visual if you think about it) I was reminded of the peterson video with Dave Kirk

he assured me he wouldn't follow through, but it was afunny sounding idea.
