Dean Englert still lives in the area. He taught right next door to me at the SOM and is as good a Euphonium player as anyone in the country. I **** thee not. Props out to my last duty assignment, the guys at Fort Monroe are among the best in the Army.

Actually, that is the common shorthand for the Armed Forces School of Music, a Tri-Service School located on the Naval Amphibious Base, Little Creek, Norfolk. Has nothing to do with any civilian institution.

Matt Dunsmore in the USAF Heritage of America Band in Langley....he's an incredibly gifted musician and friend, and a top-notch euphonium player and teacher.

Unfortunately Matt Dunsmore is no longer in the Tidewater area of Virginia. He is living in Germany now where is playing with the USAF Band over there. I cannot personally vouch for the person teaching at the Armed Forces School of Music, but I can assure you that they are of very high quality.

All of the universities mentioned in the post above (Old Dominion, William and Mary, Christopher Newport, Hampton, etc) have the same low brass instructor, Mr. Pete DuBeau of the Virginia Symphony. Pete is a great friend and a monster player. I am sure that he would be a great teacher.

If you are an adventurous type and don't mind a short 2.5 hour drive, some of the best euphonium players in the WORLD live in or around Washington DC. With all the euph studs up there, I am certain that you could find someone to fit your teaching style. It would definitely be worth the drive.

Ahhh...

I miss TUSCAB, and the SOM at Little Creek. Fun times were had by all.

I just graduated from the SOM and i can personally say that the euphonium there (SFC Ross Whitlock) is a great guy and is the **** on euphonium. As a matter of fact I'm going back there to complete my instructor quals with him next month.

If you are going to be in norfolk sometime in the near future, look me up. I'm playing with the atlantic fleet navy band in norfolk. I can also get you some other peoples names that you may want to look up. Pete Dubeau is definitely one of them. I studied with him while I was at college. He is the product of Abe Torchinski and Arnold Jacobs...need i say more? Matt Dunsmore is also great. I was a student of his before i joined the navy. But unfortunately like what was said in another post, he is not here anymore.
