Hi folks,
just bought the latest CD by the Melton Tuba Quartet, and it made me think about something:
This CD features a whole lot of pieces arranged, but not originally composed for tuba quartet.
There are zillions of Brass quintets out there which have released the same kind of repertoire.
Somehow I get this feeling that arrangements for TQ tend to be less than stellar, and I think that original compositions for TQ are much more likely to explore and develop this ensemble´s potential.
Maybe that´s because the four tubas offer less diversity in tone colour than the typical brass quintet, and not many pieces can be kept alive that way.
I´m convinced this is not the problem of this particular ensemble, but of tuba quartets in general.
What do you think ??
