Because... that's all I have to say, I don't have any experience with either version. No mouthpiece should ever cost that much!

If you have tons of cash... go down to WWBW - they have them in stock now. I would definitely not want to make that sort of investment based on what someone has to say here.

This is merely an off-the-cuff observation.

Apparently Titanium is 1/3rd the weight of stainless steel (which is about the same as regular brass mouthpieces). Usually the sound is more dark and has more clarity when there is more weight (ie megatone), but not too much weight. The fact that Titanium is lighter would make me want to think the opposite, that it would be less dark and clear. I don't know though, you'd have to try them out.

In my opinion, Titanium is really cool, and that's why they are so expensive. Sure, Titanium costs more, but I don't think that much more. I'm sure there are other factors that make the Titanium mouthpiece more expensive than the practical improvement that Titanium gives it. It's so expensive because certain people are willing to pay that much so they can tell all their friends that they have a Titanium mouthpiece.

I'm holding out for the solid carbide mouthpieces. Nothin' but the best for me.

I own the 1st Titanium Baer CC mouthpiece Ivan and Bob made. At last years Army conference I compared my Bayamo and Bora in Stainless with the Titanium counterparts Ivan had there. I tested them on Bass and ContraBass tubas. In both cases I could easily hear/feel the difference in the two metals. I liked both Titanium versions better. The sound was more focused and had more core. They both just felt more solid all around.

Later that spring after I had saved up a little mad money I was all set to buy a Bayamo in Titanium. This was at the time Ivan was just coming out with the Baer CC model. In talking with him I decided to take the plunge and go with the Baer CC in Titanium instead. I am very happy with my decision. The Baer mouthpiece really is solid and projects like mad for ME.

I have not compared the Baer CC in the two metals, I'll do that at this years Army conference - assuming Ivan will be there again. I've convinced my wife to come along - she somewhat grudginly will sit and listen to me test mouthpieces and horns. She has become quite good at being a second pair of ears though. I highly value her insights when testing equipment, and not just because that is what a smart husband is wise to do.

I looked in the upcoming events and did not see the army conference...when? I keep saying I'm going to go to one of those but it always seems to fall in a time when I can't get away from work.
