In the high school catch-all "orchestra" I directed last semester, my drummer was my only brass player. He was outstanding on drum kit, but a mediocre trumpet player at best, so I kept him on drums as much as I could, and put him on e-bass for one piece.

(Unlike my predecessor, for pieces like Vivaldi and Handel I did NOT use drum set!!)

Not judging you, by my predecessor I meant the teacher before me at that school. EVERY classical piece the orchestra played had a rock drum beat behind it. (And they watched movies constantly and had parties instead of class every week or every other week, and most of them couldn't read music.)
I would never judge you, Klaus, mein freund! :D
