Jammed Valve

My son came home from school today with a 2nd valve royally stuck in his euphonium (YEP-321) after oiling. In checking it out I found that he forced the valve in and it's about 40 degrees away from the groove where it should be seated. Is there a way to go after this carefully at home or is this a job for a repair technician?

Thanks for any advice. He felt properly shamed so I'm saving up the story of when I dropped a new marching french horn for another day.

Tell you son welcome to the fun world of maintenance. Yes, it's time for a trip to the tech. We've all been there, and we will all have occasion to go again. I'm picking up my tuba from a knockover dent repair at the end of the week myself.

You might as well take it to a repair shop since it's probably going to need a new valve guide. It should be a fairly quick, inexpensive fix. It's always a good idea to handle the pistons carefully when reinstalling them after oiling. The valve guides are prone to damage and once they get whacked a few times, they aren't alway good at hitting the guide slot.
