For those of you that play(ed) a MW 2165, what have you found that works well mouthpiece wise? I've tried the park offenloch without much success. Currently I'm using my Laskey 30H and it's... well... ok. Just wondering what else I might consider persuing.

I play a 30h on my 2000. I'm experimenting with one of the G&W AL Baer pieces but I'm not sure what I'm going to do with that. The Laskey works ok on the 2165 but the intonation is way different than it is on the 2000. The mouthpiece doesn't sit in the same place in the leadpipe so I think that has something to do with it.

From what I can see, it appears that the reciever is larger on my 2000 than on this 2165, but with the custom leadpipe, I don't know how close it is to a normal 2165.

Due to requests for the Alan Baer Signature model mouthpiece with a slightly narrower rim, and a sharper inner bite. We are currently developing a New Mouthpiece that I will have at the Army tuba Euphonium conference next week. This mouthpiece will have about 1.5 ounces more weight added to the Outside dimension contours. The added weight will be around the throat. As bloke pointed out (some years ago?) and I pointed out in another recent mouthpiece thread, I've never had a mouthpiece really fix intonation problems.

I suspect that if you are having intonation problems with such a "middle-of-the-road" mouthpiece as the 30H, things aren't going to get way better with something different. Of course there is the human factor, but intonation (good or bad) seems to be "built in" to a tuba and isn't something that can really be "fixed" with gizmos (although an "appropriate" mouthpiece--the 30H is-- makes a big difference). The 2165 I spent time with had a 45-SLP leadpipe and an "American" receiver on it that I feel made the horn "feel" much like a 2000 and although I wouldn't say the intonation was bad, it didn't even come close to being as good for me as my 2000...it was workable without giving up the sound.

Regarding leadpipes (mainly for LV), the stock 2165 leadpipe is huge. The 2000 has a "smaller" leadpipe according to some tuba gurus that I've spoken with but I don't believe it's as small as the 45-SLP pipe. The receiver is indeed huge, larger than I've seen on some other MW CC tubas.
