I see nothing that says one can plate the alloy. Kinda puts it out of the question for tubas...

Germanium - isn't that the element used in the first generation transistors? Now we will have to advertise it as "solid state" metal!!

Germanium is currently a very hot technology as part of Si-Ge high-frequency circuits. It looks very promising for 2-10 GHz telecomm applications.
