tubenet is nothing,if not a huge supply of opinions . when i got my yam 822 f,it was to be my quintet horn,as well as solo and high orchestra.i no longer need it for quintet.i just wonder,since i no longer need an f this large and a CCish low register is not an absolute necessity,is there a better horn for primarily solos with the very occasional high orchestra use(though when you need it you REALLY need it).would really need to be used and roughly equivalent value to my 1999 silver 822.give me your thoughts,oh fount of wisdom...if you've got something you'd consider trading me for,feel free to chime in,though i'm only fishing for ideas at present.

Check out the MW 2182. Huge sound, but focused and incredibly clear. It works great in the orchestra(really projects), and is right at home playing solo lit. Just my two cents.

Hang on to what you got. The need may arise for it later on.

Low Brass Werks (Tony Clements) has this Yamaha 821 "Bobo" for sale.

I don't know much about it other than it is supposed to be an updated 621 with the "Bobo" tweaks. Looks interesting.

Similar to what you've got, just a little smaller and geared more towards the solo scene.

I think part of the Boboization of the new model was making the valves more comfortable. And the added bell flare is also a long overdue improvement. I had one of the first 621F's for about 10 years and found it to be a very versatile horn. Although it did not quite have that "magic" sound of my current rotary F, it was less of a speciality horn and more of an all purpose small horn and could be used in a lot more venues, often as a small CC.
