THE SAPS CENTURIANS
Posted: Fri Jan 27, 2006 2:42 pm
Following is a list of the "Sousaphone Artists Preservation Society" first 100 members.
The "SAPS" were founded in 1973 during the "First International Tuba Symposium and Workshop" held in Bloomington, IN. The SAPS have been a secret orginization until 2002, and this post marks the first time that the founding 100, or the "Centurians" has been publicly posted.
Not all "SAPS" on this list are compliant or aware of their membership; efforts have been made to remove all of those not wishing affiliation with the orginization with the exception of Harvard G. Phillips, who is Honorary #1 SAP, occupying the William John Bell Memorial chair.
The number of the member does not indicate rank or file, and members numbers have changed over the last 33 years.
The SAPS was founded as an "underground" arm of T.U.B.A., dedicated to preserving the marriage of humor and the tuba. The SAPS motto is: "We aren't afraid to make fun of ourselves or anyone else."
