From the wwbw.com website (other retailers may have different definitions; if in doubt, ask):

New Condition. Original factory seal is not intact. Typically, an item that has been opened upon receipt from the manufacturer or repackaged for better protection. Great opportunity to SAVE MONEY on brand new items backed by a Full manufacturer warranty and Woodwind and Brasswind's 45 day 100% satisfaction guarantee.

so, who's giving rebates these days? These instruments have been play tested, either by our staff or our customers and are still in the original packaging in many instances, but the factory seal has been broken. This isn't a cereal box with a little prize inside. That sort of thing went out a long time ago.

Just my $0.02.
