It'd probably make for a great "Caption This Photo" contest!

It's a scene from "The Horn Blows at Midnight", starring Jack Benny. I bought a videotape of this movie because of this picture. The cover artwork shows a little of it too.

Imagine my disappointment when this scene wasn't in the movie! The closest it came was a flyover of a massive heavenly orchestra, where every section was blown out of proportion.

Upon a closer reading of the article that accompanied this pic, I realized that it wasn't for The Horn Blows at Midnight specifically, but rather a Diane Keaton-directed flick called "Heaven" - "a seriocomic semi-documentary in which 88 street-level visionaries offer up their expectations of life, love, sex and real estate in the great beyond." So says the review.

Apparently this movie, among other things, referenced various other films that dealt with the afterlife in some fashion.

My question - has anyone seen "Heaven"? If so, is this shot actually in the movie, or is this just some cruel hoax they're perpetrating on us lowly tuba players?

Either way, nice pic...

A young boy walked by the local church and read the sign. The sign read,"Sunday, 9 P.M. Service. Sermon: When Gabriel blows his horn!"
The boy ran home and got out his dad's old army bugle, ran back to the church and hid in the choir loft an hour before the service.
The congregation filed in and after a few hymns were sang, the preacher began his sermon:
"When Gabriel blows his horn, it's the last day for mankind. When Gabriel blows his horn, it's judgement day for all of us. When Gabriel blows his horn-"
Suddenly, the air was pierced by a deafening blast of sound by the young boy blowing his daddy's bugle. The congregation all ran screaming out of the church. There being no back way out of the place, the preacher hunkered down behind his podium. Laughing hysterically, the boy blew another loud blast on the bugle. The preacher jumped out from behind the podium and pulled a switchblade knife out of his pocket and yelled, "Mess with me, Gabriel, I'll cut ya!"

Of course Jack Benny was from Waukegan, Illinois - about 5 miles away from me. There is a Benny school who is known as the 39ers. "The Horn Blows at Midnight" had it's premire in Waukegan ages ago, probably because no one else wanted to premire it - it is a horrible movie but kind of funny. Benny did leave a lot of dough to Waukegan for the Jack Benny Center for the Arts.

In TO BE OR NOT TO BE (1942), the opening theme music is an amazing arrangement of a Chopin Polonaise with great tuba solos. This is another Jack Benny film and the last movie that Carole Lombard made before she was killed in a plane crash near Las Vegas, Nevada, in January of that year.
