According to the Revueltas scholar, Roberto Kolb, Revueltas adapted the band and group playing that he heard in the streets to his symphonic compositions. If the Sinaloa style with the wild and fast tuba lines is any indication, there must have been some pretty virtuoso playing in the bass lines in Revueltas' day. Besides the well-known "Sensemaya", there are many other challenging parts for tuba in Revueltas, such as "Noche de los Mayas", "Esquinas", the film score "Redes" and many others. John
