For three summers I tech'ed one of the most competitive H.S. marching bands in Tennessee. We did an intensive drum-corps style show. While I will agree that you can get away with having some weak players in the ranks, one person out of step or not in their position will still stick out like a sore thumb even when you have 120 musicians and several dozen color guard on the field.joshstanman wrote:While it's easy to be sloppy and unnoticed in a big band due to size

It was because of this that we (unfortunately) spent so much time on drill compared to music. On the field there is nowhere to hide!
