My opinion about good method books for your needs, Arban (I like the trombone book and read it down an octive) Tyrell and Blazevich (sp?) books 1 and 2. Of course there are other good choices. As far as advice online, Tubenet is a good start. However, there is no substitute for a teacher.

best of luck!

Fingering charts, books, method studies, and recordings are good.... but... they are no substitute for a teacher and a community/church band group. The absolute best way I've found to learn is to play next to someone who is better than I am.

Have you looked at the Rubank books? They are pretty good and fairly entertaining. Almost any music store should have them I think.

Probably the best advice given so far in this thread!
