Hello all, I was just wondering when I go to try some professional euphs, how should i go about doing it.....(mouthpiece and instrument combinations)

Should i Try each instrument with different mouthpieces.......should i use 1 mouthpiece on all instruments (if shank fits)......will there be that much of a difference to maybe "miss a better combination?"...........bring a tuner of course, what music should i bring? Should i bring the euphonium im using now? any other tips would help.

THanks,
Kevin

Kevin,

Have you read the excellent article written by David Werden on "Choosing a Euphonium"?

There's some excellent advice there. Here's the link...

Ok so time is coming around to go try some hardware on sat. but i still dont know what music to bring !! ahh I really dont have much except our simple concert band and jazz band pieces. will this do? Should i bring my method book with arppegios etc and just practice softs, louds, scales, attacks and intonation? Just wanna be ready.

You just do whatever it is that you've been working on, like a Bourdogni or Arban's excercise. At your age, I'd say get an amateur horn, like a YEP 321 or such, until you know what it is that YOU want. I'm real glad I didn't go out and buy my own until I was around 21. But, then again, FSU had some good loaner horns.

Just rememer, it would suck to buy a $6,000 horn that you won't like in a few years and have to buy a new one, rather than a $1500 instrument now and knowing exactly what and where to buy the horn you're looking for later.
