Ok, so my trip in to try my 'list' of euphoniums didnt work out so well as the Besson 968 Silver was the ONLY one she got in, the willson being behind in production by over half a year .....and she hasnt got her hands on a prestige horn. After trying the 968 for a couple of hours, I have to be honest I really didnt like it at all and did not suit me one bit. THat specific horn had some intonation issues and just wasnt worth the money so far. Now I have a pretty good deal coming in to try a Yami 842S for two weeks to decide . ( I think ill like it).............but the other dealer will be bringing in a Meinl Weston 451 (lacquer) at the same time to try. Can I have your guys' opinions on these two? I read the opinions on the 842 thread but i would like more, thanks.

When I was still playing euph, I tried a M-W 551. The octave Bb's were badly out of tune. I ended up with a Yamaha 642S--a far better euph IMO. Adam Frey swears by his 842S, and he sounds just fabulous playing it. I'll bet you'll buy one, too!

Xtreme,
I play an 842S and I play tested a MW451 for a student a little over a year back. In my opinion, the main difference between the two was how the notes slotted. One of the things I love about my 842 is how wide the slots are for each note, and how much control I have over every one. The 451 that I tried had very narrow slots. The harmonics popped out very nicely, but I really felt like there was only one spot for each note. That difference is a personal preference, so I'd play both, and choose based on what fits your personal playing style the best. Good luck!
