getting into home recording

Post by jtuba »

Well, I've broken down and am going to buy my first mixer console, condensor mike, and other accessories to start making more "professional" recordings at home. I'm using Audacity for now until I can afford a decent program. What are some good resources on the net for my new hobby?

I bought a Marshall 2003 mic from somebody locally and need the mixer for the phantom power requirements of the mic. Audacity is a free, easy to use audio importer/editor I've been using for a couple of years. Cakewalk and ProTools are out of my league right now.

Are you using a Mac or a PC? Do you have a choice?

PC. I know most pros use Mac. I'm going to hold off until I know more about what I'm doing.

How many channels to you need to record at once? There are quite a few pro set-ups running nuendo or pro-tools on a PC. I have heard but cannot verify that George Lucas is running PCs at Skywalker Sound. You can do almost everything with a PC that you can do with a Mac.

I use a Mac because PCs are so difficult to understand.
