MP with a MW 45 SLP?

Post by Contramark »

Hi guys.

I am getting ready to buy a MW 45slp, I was wondering what kind of mouthpiece some of you guys play on for this type of horn?

45 SLP mouthpiece choice

Post by bberlien »

From experience and speaking with other owners, I suggest:
Laskey 28C
Joseph Klier JK 4B
or JK 4C
Ben Berlien

You got a 45-slp already in mind that you are buying?? If not, you should give mine a play-test.

Like Ben said, the JK 4B seems like the one to play on a 45SLP right now...every SLP player in my area has one, or so it seems.

Lately the JK 4C has become a popular alternative as has the Laskey 28C. For whatever reason the Laskey 30F has been determined to be a little too big (the 28 is only something like 2mm smaller, but whatever...)

You might also want to try a Floyd Cooley Helleberg. I've had good success with that and actually had it suggested to me by a symphony pro. If you want to do it on the cheap, get a Conn Helleberg 7B and drill out the backbore.

If you want to really try something "different," get a Monette 99. I only mention the 99 because that's the only model I've ever spent any time with. When I sold the 99, the buyer mentioned that it was really a neat mouthpiece to use on his 45SLP even though he bought it for his 6/4 CC.

Blane Cunningham from Alaska,

Awesome Blaine. How much did you pay for the ME2? I might want to try it on my new horn that I am getting next month. I will have to let you know how it works.
