I sit next to a King 2280, it sounds great and I don't hear any intonation problems. I'm not sure how much credit to give to the horn. The player/horn combination is great.

The King isn't compensating so it would be similar to a Yamaha 321. If you like the Wilson try a Yamaha 642 or 842, they are compensating.

I hate to make long posts so I won't.

I play a student horn and i am getting a pro horn myself. I have played the KING 2280 and I loved it for the price anyway (if you dont want a compensating horn, which you might since you are in university). The KING has superior intonation and a very solid sound................it was great, not much wrong with it. If there is it will be with the 4th valve because i never used it seeing im used to 3 valves.

To let you know, all pro compensating horns have the 4th valve on the side (unless its 3v comp. blah blah not made anymore). I am not sure about the price but all pro horns that are extreme pocket burners like the Hirsburnner Stealth. You should also try out the Yamahas as mentioned, I enjoyed the 642, It was Ok/pretty good for a pro horn if that makes any sense. I also tried a Besson 968 and didnt like it but hey a lot of people do. So try the Besson 967 (or 968, or both of course), the Besson Prestige horns.......the Yamahas, the Meinl Weston 450 (its a lot cheaper i believe)...........Im not sure how the miraphones are but those are a few brands should consider.

The top 3 guys in my community band have, in order, a new Prestige, Sov, & new M-W. Each sounds equally good with the signature mellifluous tone a great euph gets. Try them all. Your milage may vary, and expect to invest heavily.

There's a Willson 2900 for sale that was just posted on the 'SmartGroups' forum. Here's the link--but you'll have to join or register to see the ad. From what the seller says, it's 20 years old in great shape with a tiny dent on the small tuning slide for the third valve (since he said 'small' slide, I take it he means the compensator side, but not sure). Also, the silver is worn off a little where his right thumb touched the 1st valve. (It will have a European size mpc receiver I'm sure). Comes with Schilke 51D mpc. He's asking for $4000 (includes shipping).

If you can't see the ad, his email addy is:

I honestly hated the Sovereign . I would rather keep my student model than pay that much for it. Maybe it was just because Besson tends to be inconsistent? I only tried the one horn. Im trying a prestige tuesday along with a Meinl Weston.
