Hey, tubenet...need some advice/tips..

Quickly the school year is comming to an end and before i know it summer band will be here...the old section leaders in my section will be graduating and i will be left the daunting task of taking on about 10 tubas...(mostly freshman) im so nervous, since i'll just be a junior next year....however seeing jackson state's tuba section really inspired and excited me to have a truly disiplined, high quality section... any tips on how to achive this..? I kno sectionals and what-not are needed...but anything in particular that you guys could offer? Ikno you guys have been there...

Thanks

Work 'em hard, but don't be a slave driver. Try to have fun. Do things other than play tuba together.

definately focus a lot on breathing and sound production. Check out the breathing gym and have your section do a lot of those excersizes. Play slowly together and get your intonation right, because if you play in tune you will cut through better and sound a LOT better.
