? old Holton mouthpieces #52

Hello,
I have two Holton tuba mouthpieces: "Revelation" and a "Galaxy".
The designs are a little dated, a legacy from an alien civilization. I don't use them, no one does. Does anyone know the background on these?
Thank you,
Kathott

I have a Revelation model 52, which I understand was the factory-supplied mouthpiece with the Holton 345. It is very large, very deep, and very open, and in my opinion not at all correct for this instrument. The instrument does better with something a little smaller, particularly in depth. The original is too woofy.

The reasons nobody discussed this "back then" were because
- tuba players were just happy to have "a mouthpiece".
- tuba players didn't have the means to talk to more than two or three other tuba players.
... and when they did, there was no way that they would indicate anything but how "small" it was for them...

I actually have an old Holton Galaxy.
It seems to be very "Helleberg-ish."
The rim is wider and a bit rounder than the Conn but it has a sharp corner and a deep cup.
The biggest difference is this mouthpiece has a bit more mass than the Conn Helleberg. Not as heavy as the R&S oil can heavyweight but definitely a little heavier than the conn.
perhaps it came with their sousaphones(?) since the rim is a bit wider and rounder (not nearly as much as a 24AW rim however.)
just a guess....

The Holton #52 and #7 are very close in scale: broad cup diameter, deep funnel cup, very large throat. I also don't get the numbering system.....

The Holton 52 is comical indeed. The exterior would lead you to believe that it has a rather shallow bowl cup. But inside it resembles a Dr. Young mouthpiece!
