Under what circumstance? If it's a relatively short rest, I'll lay it across my lap. If it's a whole movement, I'll rest it between my legs, bell-up.

If it's a break during practice, I'll put in down on its side on the rug. If I'm storing the tuba for the day, I'll put it on it's bell with the bow against a wall, unless it's a recording-bell horn--then it goes on it's "back".

So how do I answer this poll?

In a concert or rehearsal, across my lap. In break, on the floor on top of the gig bag and out of the way.
