Inspired by my earlier thread, I have compiled a list of orchestral works that require two or more tubas. Here is a PDF version: http://www.dogandtuba.com/TwoTubas.pdf.

Any corrections, additions or suggestions are welcome.

Please note by tuba I mean a bass or contrabass tuba. I did not include works that require a tenor tuba or cimbasso.

Just one comment. Under Berlioz, Requiem is mis-spelled as Requien.

Yep; also "Tattoo" by Del Tredici.

John Adams' "On the Transmigration of Souls" also has two parts.

I would also suggest getting an E.F. Kalmus catalog, which lists many Public Domain orchestral works and their instrumentation. Here is the catalog on the 'Net:

You should add the piece that we are doing this week here in Boston with the BSO. Its a piece from Hans Werner Henze's opera ''The Bassarids." Henze recently composed a condensed version, ''Adagio, Fugue, and Maenads' Dance." The BSO is putting on the American premiere in honor of the composer's upcoming 80th birthday (July 1). One more performance tonight, then again this next Tuesday night. William Russell is playing the second tuba part.

Do the multiple tubas have to be on stage, or can they be off stage, like in an off-stage brass section?

I believe that some of the works I have included do use off-stage tubas.

I the March from Borodin's Prince Igor has an additional brass section (including tuba) offstage, and I think Percy Granger’s The Warriors is written to include another brass section (I am not sure if this includes a tuba or not) offstage.

Does a tenor tuba count as another tuba (i.e. The Planets, Don Quixote, etc.)?

On many late Italian Romantic works, such as Puccini operas, the 4th Trombone part is a Tuba part, or vice versa.

Shostakovich Symphony #2 is a one-movement 20-minute long work for orchestra, chorus and extra brass (including tuba). The "extra brass" plays in the last seven bars only. (Oh, how did I ever get roped into that????)

I had the Tippet and I have Tattoo by Del Tredici. It appears that Final Alice only uses one tuba.

I've added it. I also noticed that the BSO received some nice reviews for the performance of this piece.

Daniels and Lucks both list the Borodin as one tuba. Lucks and Schott's list the Grainger as one tuba.
