What does that mean?

There is one slide that makes the fifth valve, I assume a flat tone. That slide just pops right into the tubes. Then there is an extension that is two straight tubes open-ended joined together with a brace. This extension plugs into the horn, and the slide mentioned above plugs into the extension. Those two pieces (the slide and the extension) combine to make the fifth valve two tones (ie a 2+3 combination).

It's just a cheap way if giving you both options without making two seperate complete slides.

Meinl Weston (Melton) used to make a five valved CC tuba with a fifth valve which came with one slide for the fifth valve which was the same length as the valve 2 and 3 combination and a second slide that was the same length as the first valve.

thanks for your explanation. the b&s website said that the pt6 is a one tone slide with a two tone extension, yet the one slide cannot fit into the fifth valve itself unless there's extension on my pt6. Am I missing something?
