If your taking an audition, and the audition is blind, are you still expected to dress up in something like a shirt and tie, or are you expected to wear something comfortable?

Personally, I would wear something decent, like a comfortable shirt & tie. For some auditions, depending on how many people there are, and how far you go, they may drop the screens for sectionals or the next round. Or, if they do it all in one day, and you win, you may be introduced to the committee.

My philosophy in this is not that this is what you'd wear to rehearsals, because you wouldn't. But if it has even the slightest chance of happening, you want to demonstrate to the committee that you are comfortable wearing the kind of thing you will wear for concerts and that kind of work, and that you are taking the whole audition process seriously.

Certainly you want to wear whatever makes you play the best, and I doubt that a tie will override anything. But all things being equal, you may want to go for that slight edge.

Maybe you won't be seen. But in that case, what have you lost?

I can almost guarantee that the last round will be without a screen. My advice: dress not only as if you'll be participating in the last round, but plan as if you expect to win the audition.
