right hand support

Post by thedeep42 »

I have a Rudolf Meinl 5/4 CC that I bought recently. The sound is tremendous and generally the whole thing works great. However, I find that the keys are set quite a bit higher (ok, further away from me when i'm playing, not higher up toward the bell on the horn) than on instruments I am more used to playing. In order to keep my wrist at a good angle, I no longer have the support of the bell under my hand and it has started to hurt me a bit. I'm having the thumb configuration moved as well because my hands aren't quite that big but I planned on that when I got the instrument. A little had been done to my PT-15 when I bought it as well which has made it really quite nice on the hand... On a mirafone 186 i brace my thumb off the second valve slide ring and/or the bell. Works pretty good. My question...

Have you ever designed some sort of right hand support or brace in order to raise the hand and/or stabilize the wrist and take some of the strain the forearm?

I'm thinking of designing a leather strap to go around the bell with a padded area I can adjust in order to raise my hand a bit. If you've done anything like this, or maybe with metal... let me know. I'm eager for options. thanks! If you have, I might ask you for pictures if you don't mind me adapting your idea if it works!

thanks!
