Of course, what constitutes training? I use the tuner to help train my ear to the correct pitch.

I know there are other tuning methods out there to help train someone to tune within an ensemble. That probably works in a good ensemble where everyone else is doing the same thing. Few in community bands have that luxury.

Plus, it's much easier for me to hear someone else's pitch than my own. Too much rattling around in the head.

Playing against a drone, ear training courses (there are some on cd), duets, ensemble training (Verne Reynolds brass quintet exercises) etc...
