Are there any alternatives to the nylon (plastic) valve guides on the MW2145. I seem to wear out one or two per year. If not, where can someone purchase valve guides for this instrument. Please Help!

Baltimore Brass Company can sell them to you. $4 each.

It's not too difficult to buy 3-mm pan-head stainless steel screws from Ace Hardware and file the heads down to make valve guides. If you get a good fit they can be very quiet and they seem to last forever. A dremel tool helps, but I have done it with just a flat file and a vise-grip. A vernier caliper is also helpful.

You may have a valve casing problem...most of the big music stores (i.e. Dillon music I know has it) have a device to fix this problem, which has been quite commom on the 2145/MW horns. I went through valve guides about 3 times a year and it seems like you may have a similar problem. I also switch to metal guides...I think it's worth the money to get a pro to put them in because you will never have to replace them again. I would call a repairman to make sure you don't have a similar issue to what I had...I think there are former posts about this as well if you do a search.
