I'm playing an 1864 Hall & Quimby Eb in a Civil War band. It has some beautifully artistic engraving on the bell, hand-done, of course. A lot of antiques have gorgeous handwork done before engraving became a dying art.
JP/Sterling 377 compensating Eb; Warburton "The Grail" T.G.4, RM-9 7.8, Yamaha 66D4; for sale > 1914 Conn Monster Eb (my avatar), ca. 1905 Fillmore Bros 1/4-size Eb, Bach 42B trombone

I suppose I have no class when it comes to engravings.
I have an old Conn 14K sousaphone, but the label is almost completely obscured by age and past buffing.
My Holton says...Holton, Elkhorn Wis. No fancy engraving at all.
The Miraphone has the standard 70's "Mirafone" logo, only it's pointed to the side instead of the front. The bell was installed 90 degrees out during overhaul, and the funkiness of that appealed to me, so I didn't mind.
The Yamaha has no label at all. Neither does the York Master, except on the forward bell, and then's its just a plain cursive script with no decoration.
The B&S has "Symphonie" written in old-fashioned German script, but nothing more.
No flowers, curly-cues, naked ladies, skyscrapers, or clouds.

I like the engraving on the Diston instruments made around the end of the 1800's, plants and flowers all over the guard plates. I also like the way that the Diston tubas sound (at least the few that I have tried). They have a very light and beautiful sound.
best,
Mark

I generally like the concept, however I'm not certain it is always nice.twoconnguy wrote:It's always nice to have a "Naked Lady" in your lap!!
