Maybe you should just give it some more time.
It worked just fine for me, especially in high register.

With work, you can improve anything over time, regardless of what mouthpiece you're using. That is a huge mouthpiece (I played one for 3 years) that does take some getting used to, but eventually I learned to love it.

Think about your air flow going through the mouthpiece and try to center it. If that isn't working right, it could be causing you some of the other problems you mentioned.

You'll definately be playing with a darker, big sound with that thing, I'm sure you've noticed. :)

I think of the 50+ as a large ensemble/orchestra mp for heavy rep.I've yet to need multiple tonguing in these situations, though i do have a very fast single tongue.I use other horns and mp's if i need to multiple tongue. The 50+ and my big holton make a sound that makes me smile on heavy tunes :D

Great mouthpiece.....the PT-50 is the only CC mouthpiece I've used in the past 15 years....just switched to the PT-50+ two years ago and I'm in love with it.

Keep working at it....it'll pay off.

The heavyness of the PT-50+ I found through my playing and experimenting was as said before good for some of the harder blows ie: Bruckner stuff, some Mahler, etc. However, with the regular PT-50, I got the same results in my sound but with a crisper and more consistent(in regards to clarity). Both are good mouthpieces, but I would exercise discretion as to what I use the PT-50+ for.

My lips are kinda small, so I've been playing on a 42, a recent switch from the 50. I hear that 42's and 44's work better for some people, so if you continue to have the same problems in the future, those might be helpful.

I have a PT50 (not a +) and I think it's great. I tried it beside a PT50+ and found that the sound was only very slightly better with the +... but the + lost a fair deal of flexibility. I decided to go with the flexibility (which was vastly different between the two) instead of the slight difference in tone.

I also find no problems with the upper register on the PT50, but I didn't really do much upper register testing on the 50+ when I tried it. I would suggest you try a regular PT50 and compare it against the + to see if it fixes the problem.

Im still getting used to my PT50+. I love it already, but Im still not quite used to its size, probably more just me ironing out habits I developed playing on smaller mouthpieces in the low register.
